LearningCycles: Let There Be Light

Creative Activities for Cultivating Gratitude and Care for Creation
  • The LearningCycles series offers a creative approach to faith formation based on different learning styles, appropriate for K-5th graders.
  • Includes seven workshops: Art, Story & Games, Drama & Activity, Music, Kitchen, Movie, and Publishing.
  • This series works well for whole family/intergenerational catechesis and is a great basis for grandparent camps or other vacation bible schools.
  • The creation story is one that children in most religions all over the world are familiar with in some way. There are multiple ways to tell the story and multiple ways to hear or interpret it, but any way you look at it, this is THE foundational story of humankind and the world we live in. It is important that children learn the story, but it is equally important that we find ways to encourage them to imagine and wonder.
  • The hope of this LearningCycle is to teach children that we live in a magnificent, intricate world brought into existence by a loving Creator who has now given human beings the responsibility to care for this wonderful creation. This cycle offers a great opportunity to introduce concepts of care for the earth, our common home.

FOR YOUTH MINISTRY

Keeping the Garden: A Faith Response to God's Creation (In Real Life series)

This all-in-one, interactive, Scripture-based curriculum will engage youth in this topic.

Can the ancient book of Genesis shed light on today’s environmental issues?
The stories of “beginnings” highlight the earth as God’s, and creation as a “book” that reveals Life and light at the heart of all that has life. God is embedded in this treasure, reason enough to hold and protect it, and our attentive relationship with God’s good gift of creation means ensuring that it continues to function according to God’s design (6 youth ministry sessions, plus extender session)

Teaching Kids to Care for God's Creation
Reflections, Activities & Prayers for Catechists & Families
Sister Mary Elizabeth Clark responds to Pope Francis’ call by offering thirty lessons that will engage children, catechists, and families in the good work of keeping our planet livable and sustainable for coming generations.
Inspired by passages in Laudato Si’ (On Care for our Common Home), the lessons and practical activities are fun and thought-provoking. The reflections and prayers in each lesson help connect our practical actions to the gospel and deepen our spiritual sense of our common home. From activities for conserving water to developing a greater awareness of all of God’s creation, this book will be a great resource for catechists and families.
